Write for Us – Crochet Getaway

Thank you for your interest in writing for us at Crochet Getaway  (www.crochetgetaway.com). Crochet Getaway launched on March 12, 2015. As we move into Year 9, I am looking for freelance writers to assist with content.

I’m currently accepting short articles (400 – 800 words) about:

Crochet Events – Anywhere and everywhere – yarn crawls, seminars, cruises, and even local classes. Let’s fill the website with information and promote the wonderful world of crochet.

Yarn Shops – Do you have a favorite yarn shop? One that you tell all your friends about? I want to hear about it and share it with the Crochet Getaway community.

Seasonal Festivals – I’m looking for some feet on the street at seasonal festivals. These articles should include a short background on the event, some details about how the event relates to crochet (sheep to shawl reviews, for example), and some practical information for attendees (If You Go) material.

Write for Us – Guidelines:

When you write for us, article submissions must be your original work and not published elsewhere. I will work with you on any necessary edits.

At least 30% of the article should be directly related to crochet.

I reserve the right to reject any article idea that is not a good fit for the 1,400+ Crochet Getaway blog and Facebook subscribers. It’s rare, but I also reserve the right to remove articles from the website for any reason, including a change of content direction or timeliness/relevance of event or location coverage.

To Submit a Story Idea for Crochet Getaway:

Send me a query via email at gwyn@crochetgetaway.com to ensure that another article is not already scheduled for the same event coverage.

In a few sentences, provide a brief description of your article or the “getaway” that you will write about, proposed word count, photo availability, and expected timeline for submission.

Include “FREELANCE QUERY” in the subject line of your email.

Payment: Crochet Getaway pays $20 for first electronic rights for a minimum of six months after the publication date. A typical article will be 400-800 words with 2-3 high-quality photos. Payments will be processed via PayPal upon publication.

To Submit Your Completed Article (after your query has been approved)

  • Send your article to me via email (gwyn@crochetgetaway.com). The article should have a proposed title plus your name as you want it to appear on the site’s byline. I recommend Grammarly for proofreading your article before sending it to me.
  • Provide a link to high-resolution photos in a Dropbox gallery or another URL where images can be viewed and downloaded for publication. Please include a bio photo at the same location.
  • Include a short bio of fewer than 100 words, and you may include one link in the bio. Here’s an article about how to craft a bio paragraph.
  • Provide your Paypal email address for payment processing.

Thank You, and I look forward to working together!
